Chickens needs to roost! This is a natural instinct in their routine and is truly based on keeping themselves safe from predators. In addition, roosting is an important part of the “pecking order†that occurs with all flocks. Dominant hens will take the higher placement and it works down from there. Our feathered friends who are near the bottom are often on the lookout, sleeping with one eye open to keep watch-literally! Roosting also allows birds time to de-stress and reduce anxiety. And we all know a happy hen will be more consistent in egg production. Having different perch options is optimal to ensure every bird gets their favorite spot and the Portable A-Frame Roosting Ladder is an excellent choice. The sturdy design is constructed from USA Southern Pine and is available in small and large. Each hen requires 8-10 inches of space on the perch, so keep that in mind when you are picking your size. Either size ladder takes about 15 minutes to build, and your birds will be happy when you are finished!
