A lot of people are disappointed that the planters come as raw steel.Just spray it with a mix of salt, vinegar and peroxide… probably salt & vinegar would work too.I just googled a recipe (can’t remember which one now), and it will “rust” within hours.Only advice, lay it on it’s side and spray (then turn it when it’s dry and repeat) to avoid drip lines.

I looked at this item for over a week before making my purchase, I loved the look but was not sure about buying it without seeing it first hand. After reading the reviews I purchased 2 of the large planters for either side of an entryway. I absolutely LOVE these planters. Heavy duty, great quality, they come very well packaged and I followed the suggestions on how to get the rusted look quickly and it was so easy. I would highly recommend purchasing this product, great product, great value.

Heavy-duty and built to last, we ended up ordering additional sizes after liking the first sets so much. The photo shows the piece straight out of the box (they come incredibly well-packed) prior to rusting. We may opt to speed the process up with a compound, but frankly, they are lovely as-is. Worth noting: it will likely take two people to maneuver these.

I ordered three of these and they are incredible!!The video on how to speed the rusting process was super helpful.I used about 32oz of peroxide per planter box to get the patina I was looking for.Note to others buying during COVID time, peroxide is hard to come by and/or limited to one bottle per purchase.I had to hop around to a number of stores to get the volume I needed to rust 3 planters at the same time.Too, I used a pressurized spray canister rather than a regular spray bottle. It’s a game changer and highly recommended. The coverage was so much better it cut my number of applications way down after I changed application methods.
Can’t say enough how beautiful they are, and how easy it is to rust them to your desired color. It’s fun, too!

The black metal was very interesting looking but I sprayed them with a solution of hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt and produced an amazing orange rust color on them . They are beautiful! I plan to seal them also. They would have rusted on their own but it would have taken longer. I am very happy with them .

These are perfect.I oxidized them over a 2-3 week period using the hydrogen peroxide, vinegar and salt mixture detailed in the Veradek YouTube video (https://youtu.be/uawoJwNZCN8.Betwee)n the rain and about 4 treatments of this mixture, they rusted beautifully and they aren’t leaving any rusty residue on my hands or clothing! They alsohave pre-drilled drainage holes on the bottom and the styrofoam inserts so the soil doesn’t get too hot.

Giving 5 stars because it was a perfect size and these are VERY heavy which is exactly what I needed.BUT, color is totally different. These did not have the rust/orange hue like shown in the picture. They are grey, and steel, with distressed finishes.Actually wanted the rust look but made them work!

I ordered 2 of these planters—16”H x 38”W x 15” deep—and I love them. I followed the recipe for the rust patina and it worked immediately. I saturated them once, let them dry, and sprayed again. That’s all that was needed. The next day I planted them, and they’ve received rave reviews from friends.
