I was nervous, but I trusted my instinct and went for the “open box.”
The shipping box was beat but the table is great! The bottom of one of the legs needed some coaxing to get the plastic piece into the metal (which may have been why it was returned) but with a little elbow grease, I got it in and the legs and table are great. No scratches, everything was well wrapped and boxed. Worked out well for me!
